Information About 140M-C2E-B25

Allen Bradley 140M-C2E-B25 Series C motor protection circuit breaker with trip class 10 (trips in 10 seconds of less), DIN rail mounting, rotary operation and adjusts from 1.6 to 2.5 AMPS. Each motor protection comes with a trip and test indication for a visual confirmation of an overload condition. In addition to the base unit, front and side mounted auxiliary contacts are available along with under voltage trips and through the door operated handles to accommodate all possible applications. When combined with an appropriately sized 100-C series contactor, the 140M-C2E-B25 circuit breaker is listed as a Type F combination motor controller for complete short circuit protection.

The Allen Bradley Motor Protection Circuit Breakers may have 2 cULus Listings – as Manual, Self-Protected Combination Motor Controllers and as Manual Motor Controllers (with optional approvals for Motor Disconnect and Group Installation). When UL/CSA listed as Manual, Self-Protected Combination Motor Controllers, the 140M-C2E-B25 Motor Protection Circuit Breakers provide all of the necessary NEC/CEC requirements for the protection and control of individual Motor Branch Circuits without additional protective devices. At some higher voltages and currents (particularly at 600V), a few of the devices are only UL/CSA Listed as Manual Motor Controllers (with optional approvals for Motor Disconnect and Group Installation). In NEC/CEC Group Installations, these devices must be applied per the appropriate rules which require the use of an upstream Branch-Circuit, Short-Circuit Protective Device (BCPD).

Frequently Asked Questions about 140M-C2E-B25
Question: What is the 140M-C2E-B25?
Date Update:12/06/2025
Answer:

The 140M-C2E-B25 is a magnetic motor starter designed by Schneider Electric, used for controlling and protecting electric motors in various industrial applications. It features magnetic contactors for switching, a thermal overload relay for protection, and can be used to start and stop motors automatically or manually. This model is rated for a 25A current capacity.

Question: How do I replace the 140M-C2E-B25 motor starter?
Date Update:12/06/2025
Answer:

To replace the 140M-C2E-B25 motor starter:

  1. Power down the system: Ensure that the motor and all related systems are powered off before beginning the replacement.
  2. Remove the old motor starter:
  • Disconnect the input and output wiring (power and control circuits).
  • Unscrew and remove the old motor starter from its mounting.

3. Install the new motor starter:

  • Mount the new 140M-C2E-B25 starter in the same position.
  • Reconnect the wiring as per the electrical schematics.
  • Ensure that the wiring is properly connected to the contactor and overload relay terminals.

4. Test the new motor starter: Power up the system and test the starter’s functionality, ensuring it operates as expected (i.e., motor starts, stops, and is protected from overload).

Always refer to the specific user manual for wiring and installation instructions.

Question: What should I check before replacing the 140M-C2E-B25?
Date Update:12/06/2025
Answer:

Before replacing the 140M-C2E-B25, check:

  1. Motor specifications: Ensure the new starter is compatible with the motor's voltage and current requirements.
  2. Wiring connections: Confirm that the wiring for both control and power circuits is correctly matched to the new motor starter.
  3. Mounting space: Make sure the new starter will fit into the existing space without modification.
  4. Overload settings: If replacing the overload relay, verify the settings are suitable for the motor's full-load current to avoid damage.
Question: How do I adjust the overload relay on the 140M-C2E-B25?
Date Update:12/06/2025
Answer:

The overload relay on the 140M-C2E-B25 can be adjusted by:

  1. Locating the adjustment dial on the overload relay.
  2. Setting the current: Turn the dial to match the motor's full-load current rating (usually specified on the motor nameplate).
  3. Confirming the trip class: Ensure that the trip class of the overload relay matches the application requirements (Class 10, Class 20, etc.).

Refer to the product manual for more specific details on adjusting the overload relay.

Question: What should I do if the 140M-C2E-B25 starter trips frequently?
Date Update:12/06/2025
Answer:

If the 140M-C2E-B25 starter trips frequently, consider these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Check the motor: Ensure the motor is not drawing excessive current. Check for mechanical issues such as a seized bearing or blocked fan.
  2. Verify overload settings: Ensure the overload relay is correctly set to the motor’s full-load current and that the overload relay is functioning properly.
  3. Inspect wiring: Verify the power and control wiring for any loose connections or short circuits.
  4. Check environmental conditions: Ensure the starter is not exposed to extreme temperatures or humidity, which could affect its performance.
  5. Check for faulty contactors: Ensure the contactors are not worn out or malfunctioning.

If the issue persists, consult with a qualified technician or contact Schneider Electric support for assistance.
