Information About 1734-ARM

The Allen-Bradley 1734-ARM is an address reserve module that maintains the numbering schemes of purchased I/O modules by reserving the addresses and slot numbers of the modules. It is part of the POINT I/O Family of digital and analog modules. The structure and address of non-parameterized signal modules are replaced by a signal module and retained. Without module configuration, this module does not communicate the I/O data. The 1734-ARM is designed to simplify system engineering and inventory and reduce operating costs. It is flexible and can be applied to control and automation systems.

The module has no designated key switch position and can be installed in any slot with any key position. It saves a node address for later insertion. The user can install the 1734-ARM before or after mounting the base. Make sure that the mounting base on the DIN rail is keyed accurately. The 1734-ARM Module requires a 1734-TB or -TBS wiring base assembly. It has a maximum point bus current of 75 mA, a power dissipation of 0.375 W, and a thermal dissipation of 1.3 BTU/hour maximum at 5 Volts DC. It has green/red logic side status indicators – one each for the network and the module. For optimal performance, make sure that operational temperature stays between -20 and 55 degrees Celsius (-4 and 131 degrees Fahrenheit) and that the relative humidity does not exceed 95%, noncondensing.

Frequently Asked Questions about 1734-ARM
Question: What is the primary purpose of the 1734-ARM module?
Date Update:06/06/2025
Answer:

The 1734-ARM is an Address Reserve Module designed to maintain slot continuity in a POINT I/O system by reserving I/O addresses for future module installation. It allows engineers to predefine module layouts and replace or add modules later without reconfiguring the network. This simplifies system scaling and reduces downtime during maintenance or upgrades. The ARM module does not perform I/O functions but helps maintain logical structure. It is particularly useful in staged or phased deployments.

Question: Does the 1734-ARM module communicate with I/O data?
Date Update:06/06/2025
Answer:

No, the 1734-ARM does not handle any I/O data because it is not a signal-processing module. Its role is purely organizational—it reserves address space without generating or consuming signals. This makes it transparent in control logic but critical for address planning. It appears in the system tree but does not require parameterization. Its function is passive yet essential in design integrity.

Question: With which wiring bases is the 1734-ARM compatible?
Date Update:06/06/2025
Answer:

The 1734-ARM must be mounted on a compatible base such as 1734-TB or 1734-TBS wiring assemblies. These bases provide the mechanical and electrical interface to the POINTBus. The module can be inserted at any key position, as it doesn't enforce keying. Correct base installation ensures proper address reservation. Its base mounting allows fast and secure deployment.

Question: Can the 1734-ARM module be used for system flexibility and cost saving?
Date Update:06/06/2025
Answer:

Yes, it allows users to reserve space for future modules without reprogramming or rewiring, which reduces engineering costs and downtime. This makes it ideal for scalable systems or phased deployments. It provides a placeholder for modules not yet installed. Maintenance and upgrades are easier thanks to consistent addressing. The result is a flexible, future-ready system design.

Question: Is the 1734-ARM module still being manufactured?
Date Update:06/06/2025
Answer:

Yes, the 1734-ARM is actively manufactured and supported as part of Allen-Bradley's POINT I/O system. It remains available through official Rockwell Automation distributors. The module is included in modern distributed I/O architectures and Studio 5000 environments. Continued production ensures long-term use in new or existing systems. It remains relevant for both digital and analog expansions.
