The Allen-Bradley 1734-IK is an incremental encoder counter module. It has 1 input available and it is a group of A/A, B/B, and Z/Z returns. Its key switch position is 2 and its wiring category is 1 on all signal ports. This module can be mounted using a DIN rail mount and is compatible with a 1734-TB, 1734-TBS, 1734-TB3, or a 1734-TB3S wiring base assembly and a 22 to 14 AWG stranded or solid copper wire. Five status indicators are present with this module and these let users see the current state of the module, network, and the A, B, and Z inputs. Both the module and network status indicators are green/red while the A, B, and Z input status indicators are yellow. This module measures 2.21 x 0.47 x 2.97 inches and it weighs 0.08 pounds. It has an open-type enclosure and an external DC power supply is not required.

The 1734-IK can receive feedback from pulse generators and differential or single-ended encoders. It can also process frequencies of up to 1 MHz and return the frequency or count in the form of a 24-bit binary number between 0 and 16,777,215 that is expressed in a 32-bit long word. The 1734-IK module is also compatible with mechanical limit switches. The input voltage of the 1734-IK ranges from 15 to 24 Volts DC and its nominal input is 24 Volts DC. This module has input currents of 6.1 mA at 15 Volts DC and 10.2 mA at 24 Volts DC. During off-state, it has a maximum current that is less than or equal to 0.250 mA and a voltage that is less than or equal to 1.8 Volts DC. When in on-state, it has a current that is equal to or more than 5 mA and a voltage that is less than or equal to 12.5 Volts DC. The maximum POINT bus current of the 1734-IK is 160 mA, the maximum power dissipation is 1.5 W at the rated load, and the maximum thermal dissipation is 5.1 BTU/hour at the rated load.
