The Allen-Bradley 1745-PCC converter is an interface converter which is part of the Allen-Bradley SLC personal computer interface kit. This interface kit allows for communication between a personal computer and SLC 100 series programmable controllers and SLC 150 series programmable controllers. All the different kit components are sold separately.
The purpose of the Allen-Bradley 1745-PCC interface converter in the interface kit is to convert RS-422 signals from the SLC processor to RS-232-C signals which are compatible with personal computers. The 1745-PCC interface converter also isolates the SLC processor from the RS-232 port on the computer and therefore it protects the SLC processor against noise transients on the computer serial port. Because the 1745-PCC interface converter connects to a 25-pin RS-232 port, computers with 9-pin RS-232 ports require a 25-pin to 9-pin adapter cable. The interface converter connects to the SLC processor through the 6-foot cable. The Series A SLC 100 series processors can only communicate at up to a distance of 100 feet. The Series B SLC 100 processors, Series A SLC 150 processors, or later processors can communicate remotely at up to a distance of 4000 feet.
