Information About 1746-BAS
The 1746-BAS significantly enhances the communication and data-handling capabilities of SLC 500 processors by offering a standalone BASIC programmability environment inside the chassis. It fits in a single slot of an SLC 500 rack and supports extensive serial communication options for industrial integration. The module includes PRT1 and PRT2 serial ports, each configurable for RS-232/423, RS-422, or RS-485, enabling support for terminals, printers, HMIs, modems, and data acquisition equipment. PRT2 can additionally operate using the DF1 protocol, and when used in DF1 modem mode, the onboard DH-485 port is disabled. The DH-485 port allows integration into legacy low-speed network architectures using a 1747-AIC isolator. The 1746-BAS includes a 24 KB battery-backed RAM, providing non-volatile storage for BASIC applications and data sets. The onboard processor supports report generation, string handling, data logging, and machine-level integration tasks not native to standard SLC processors. Diagnostic LEDs for module activity, communication, fault status, and battery condition simplify troubleshooting. Built to NEMA noise-immunity standards, the module operates in challenging industrial environments with an operating temperature range of 32–140 °F.
Key Features:
- BASIC-language programming environment
- Two configurable serial ports (RS-232/423, RS-422, RS-485)
- Dedicated DH-485 port for legacy network integration
- Supports DF1 for modem or device communication
- 24 KB battery-backed RAM for program and data retention
- Eight diagnostic LEDs for system status
- Data collection and report generation capability
- Compatible with all SLC 500 processors (5/01 and up)
- Single-slot modular design
- NEMA-rated noise immunity
This module is widely used for data collection, printer formatting, barcode integration, custom communication drivers, and serial-device interfacing—making it a flexible, powerful addition to any SLC 500 system.
