Information About 1747-AIC
The Allen-Bradley 1747-AIC is an isolated link coupler. The panel-mountable coupler conforms to the NEMA standard ICS 2-230, IEC1000-4-2, EN50081-2 Class A, and the IEC1000-4-3 regulations and standards. In addition, this device is CSA certified. The dimensions of the coupler are 1.5 x 6.8 x 6.5 inches with current load of this isolated link coupler is 0.085 Amps at 24 Volts DC. Moreover, the Allen-Bradley 1747-AIC offers an advanced interface converter with a shielded twisted-pair communication interface. This interface helps with communication between several network devices in the SLC 500 family such as the SLC 5/02, SLC 5/01, and the SLC 5/03 processors and the DH-485 link.
Note that connecting more than 2 SLC500 processors with a DH-485 link requires 1 isolated coupler on the 1747-AIC drive. Also, 1 link coupler should be connected at each end of the link if a computer or DTAM is linked at a distance greater than 20 feet or 6.09 meters. To connect with the processor, an Allen-Bradley 1747-C11 cable is provided with the coupler. To connect to the DH-485 communication cable, the coupler offers a 6-position removable terminal block. The communication cable is 1219 meters or 4000 feet in length. The backplane current of the 1747-AIC is 0 mA at 5 Volts and 85 mA at 24 Volts. The thermal dissipation is 2 W minimum and 2 W maximum, respectively and the relative humidity range of the 1747-AIC drive is from 5 to 95% without condensation. The isolated coupler comes with 1 G operating vibration at 5 to 2000 Hertz operating vibration and 2.5 G non-operating vibration at 5 to 2000 Hertz. For a 24 Volts DC power source, the coupler requires 20.4 to 28.8 Volts DC.
The 1747- Advanced Interface Converter (AIC) Link coupler which allows an SLC 500 fixed style or modular style processor to be communicated or multiplexed with a programming workstation, DH485 network and compatible devices.
This Link Coupler is a panel mounted device. It has a DH485 communication terminal, Peripheral connection and a CPU port. It also has a LED indicator to provide power supply feedback.
If planning to connect an SLC processor, each processor must be installed with One (1) Link coupler. This enables the connected processor to be connected to a DH485 network while allowing simultaneous communication with a programming workstation through one of the integrated port.
There are a variety of ways to connect a programming workstation such as a personal computer to the link coupler. The computer may use the integrated USB port, combined with a 1747-UIC converter and 1747-C13 cable. Through the computer’s RS232 serial communication port, 1747-PIC may be used combined with 1747-C10 communication cable. For a PCMCIA slot or a computer with 1784-PMCK, 1784.PMC4 communication cable is required. All these communication cables connect to the link’ coupler’s single peripheral terminal.
To connect the controller to a DH485 communication network, Belden #3106A or #9462 shielded twisted pair cable is required. DH485 is designed for daisy chain topology with a maximum length of cable segments of 1219 m or 4000 ft.
If connected to an SLC 500 processor, the link coupler is powered via the communication port; otherwise, an external 24VDC power supply is required to power the link coupler device.
