Frequently Asked Questions about 1747-CP3
Question: What is the primary function of the 1747-CP3 module?
Date Update:30/05/2025
Answer:

The 1747-CP3 is a Communications Processor module designed for Allen-Bradley SLC 500 series PLCs. Its primary function is to provide communication capabilities between the SLC 500 controller and other devices or networks, supporting protocols such as DH-485, Remote I/O, and Ethernet (with appropriate adapters).

Question: Which communication protocols and networks does the 1747-CP3 support?
Date Update:30/05/2025
Answer:

The 1747-CP3 supports several communication protocols, including DH-485 and Remote I/O for serial networks. It also supports communication with programming terminals and HMIs. For Ethernet connectivity, it can be paired with additional communication adapters. This flexibility allows integration into various industrial network architectures.

Question: How is the 1747-CP3 configured and programmed?
Date Update:30/05/2025
Answer:

The module is configured using RSLogix 500 programming software, where users set communication parameters such as node address, baud rate, and network type. It requires proper setup to match the connected devices and networks for reliable data exchange. Firmware updates may be necessary to maintain compatibility.

Question: Can the 1747-CP3 be used for remote programming and monitoring?
Date Update:30/05/2025
Answer:

Yes, the 1747-CP3 enables remote programming and monitoring of the SLC 500 PLC. By connecting to a network, engineers can download or upload programs and monitor controller status without physical access, improving maintenance efficiency and reducing downtime.

Question: Is the 1747-CP3 still available, or has it been discontinued?
Date Update:30/05/2025
Answer:

The 1747-CP3 is considered legacy hardware and has been largely superseded by newer communication processors and Ethernet modules. It may be difficult to find new units, but used or refurbished modules are still available through industrial surplus suppliers.
