Information About 1747-L524
The Allen-Bradley 1747-L524 is an SLC 500 processor. Also referred to as an SLC 5/02 controller, this processor has a maximum memory of 4K for instructions and a maximum of 4096 modules each for discrete input and output. This processor supports analog, digital, scanner module, specialty and intelligent IO modules. However, this processor is not compatible with the 1746-BLM and 1746-MPM modules. Supported scanner modules by this processor are DeviceNet, ControlNet, and Universal Remote I/O to the system. This processor also has a maximum of 480 local Analog I/O and a maximum local chassis/slot of 3/30. Note that no additional data storage can be installed with this processor. However, you can use optional EEPROM modules. These memory modules allow you to save the contents of the processor RAM and load the data saved in the EEPROM memory to the processor RAM. The DH-485 communication port available with this processor is set to receive and initiate instructions but it requires the 1747-PIC if you will connect the port for programming.
Status indicators are available for this processor. It also has a user-replaceable battery that is estimated to last for an average of 2 years. This processor, measuring 145 x 35 x 142 millimeters, can be mounted using a chassis and it has an open-style enclosure. It has a maximum current of 0.9 A at 5 Volts DC and minimum Watts and total Watts of both 1.75 each. The program scan time of the processor is 4.8 milliseconds/K and the I/O scan time is 1.6 milliseconds. Bit execution is 2.4 microseconds. This processor also has a backplane current load of 350 mA at 5 Volts DC and 105 mA at 24 Volts DC. Depending on the power supply loading, its program scan hold-up time after the loss of power is from 20 milliseconds to 3 seconds. The operating temperature of this processor ranges from 0 to 60 degrees Celsius and the storage temperature is from -40 to 85 degrees Celsius. Its vibration is a 0.015-inch displacement peak-to-peak at 5 to 57 Hertz and 2.5 G acceleration at 57 to 2000 Hertz. It also has an operating shock of 30 G and comes with a non-condensing relative humidity of 5 to 95%.
The 1747-L524 is the only controller variant under the SLC 5/02 controller category. This processor is a modular controller that features an integrated 4KB memory. It has a remote IO capacity of 4096 and supports Remote IO implementation with capacity up to 4096 input and outputs.
It has an integrated DH485 communication for exchanging data with Human Machine Interface (HMI), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and 3rd party automation systems. It may also be used for messaging other Allen-Bradley controllers such as PLC 5, CompactLogix and ControlLogix.
This controller’s capability is more advanced compared to SLC 5/01 processors as it can also implement Proportional + Integral + Derivate (PID) algorithm through the built-in instruction for closed loop and automatic control applications. This processor also supports address indexing, process and program interrupts, user defined fault routines and handling of 32-Bit signed arithmetic operations.
It is also compatible to be communicated with 1747-DTAM or Data Table Access Module to view and modify data tables, change operating mode and transfer memory.
SLC 5/02 processor has front panel LED indicators for indicating CPU operating mode, CPU Fault status, IO Forcing, Communication status and Battery Voltage. The battery of this processor is also located in the module’s front panel. This allows a convenient replacement as batteries are replaced with an active power supplied to the CPU via the backplane. This processor is a single slot module and occupies Slot Zero (0) of the SLC 500 chassis.
