Information About 1747-M13

The Allen-Bradley 1747-M13 is a memory module which is combined for use with a memory adapter. It is used commonly as a backup memory for SLC 5/03, 5/04, and 5/05 processors. The memory should be properly oriented and mounted on the jumpers. For the 1747-M13 module, the jumper must connect the A18 to the center pin. To make the 1747-M13 functional with its memory adapter, you should use a 1747-M15 module. This is to avoid damaging the memory module, the PROM, or both components.

When installing the memory module and removing the processor, make sure the controller is switched OFF. This prevents any damage and undesired faults to the processor. The memory module has connectors that are keyed to avoid improper installation. Do not expose the module to the areas in which it may experience electrostatic charge. The electrostatic charge may damage, alter, or even destroy the memory of the 1747-M13.

The 1747-M13 is a memory module intended for use with the Allen-Bradley SLC 500 Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). This memory module has an integrated 64K of user back-up memory.

This memory module requires a memory adapter module with part number 1747-M15 series B. If a Series A 1747-M15 is used, the memory module may be damaged.

The primary function of the memory module is to provide a non-volatile memory area for the Processor. The SLC 500 processors are provide with a Random-Access Memory (RAM) which is backed-up by a Lithium battery for a minimum of Two (2) years. If the battery voltage is drained, the data inside the RAM memory will be deleted. This will result to loss or user program that runs the process. With the installation of a memory module, the processor is provided with memory that cannot be erased even when the back-up battery is drained. This prevents unwanted deletion of the user program and unplanned process shutdown. The user program inside the memory module is automatically loaded every time a power cycle is initiated.

Simply connect to the processor and initiate program burn to EEPROM module.

Frequently Asked Questions about 1747-M13
Question: How much memory does the 1747-M13 module offer?
Date Update:05/06/2025
Answer:

The module provides 64 kilobytes of user memory, equivalent to 64,000 words. This capacity is suitable for storing complex ladder logic programs and data tables. It allows users to manage large projects and process data efficiently. This makes the module ideal for applications with substantial data requirements.

Question: Which steps are recommended when installing the 1747-M13?
Date Update:05/06/2025
Answer:
  • Turn Off Controller: Ensure power is off before installation.
  • Use Correct Adapter: Only use 1747-M15 Series B to avoid damage.
  • Avoid ESD: Handle with grounding protection to prevent memory corruption.
  • Check Orientation: Follow manufacturer guidelines for correct placement.
  • Verify Connection: Ensure jumpers are properly set and secure.
Question: Does the 1747-M13 require any additional hardware to function?
Date Update:05/06/2025
Answer:

Yes, to function properly, the 1747-M13 requires a memory adapter module—specifically the 1747-M15 Series B. Using a Series A 1747-M15 can damage the memory module. The adapter ensures correct voltage and signal routing between the processor and the memory module. It is crucial to follow manufacturer guidelines to avoid damaging both components.

Question: Which processors are compatible with the 1747-M13?
Date Update:05/06/2025
Answer:

The 1747-M13 memory module is designed to work with SLC 5/03, SLC 5/04, and SLC 5/05 processors. These processors are part of the SLC 500 family and are widely used in industrial automation. Compatibility ensures that the module can be integrated into existing systems. This allows for easy upgrades and enhanced data protection.

Question: Is the 1747-M13 still in production?
Date Update:05/06/2025
Answer:

No, the 1747-M13 is discontinued. Production ended on March 31, 2024, and it is no longer available for sale. There is no planned Rockwell Automation replacement for this module. Users are advised to remove references to this product from their systems and plan accordingly.
