The system power supply is not included to the slot count as the power supply is installed outside the chassis through the provided power supply interface. Being a Four (4) slot chassis, the minimum rated ControlLogix power supply is capable of powering up the modules attached to it.
ControlLogix chassis also supports distributed application. With distributed application, I/O modules may be installed to a chassis remote to the processor. This prevents installation of individual signal cable home runs. With a distributed application, Distributed I/O channels does not have a processor instead, it is installed with a communication adapter along the required ControlLogix modules. Any chassis within the ControlLogix system may be used as distributed I/O chassis including the 1756-A4. Each chassis require an individual system power supply.
