Information About 1756-ENET
The 1756-ENET is one of the early-generation Ethernet interface modules for the ControlLogix platform. Designed to integrate seamlessly into a Logix-based architecture, this module enables both explicit messaging and I/O communications using Ethernet/IP and CIP (Common Industrial Protocol). Its ability to function as either a scanner or an adapter makes it suitable for small to medium distributed I/O systems.
The module features a single-slot design and installs in any available position within a compatible ControlLogix chassis. It provides a 10 Mbps Ethernet interface for device-to-controller communication and includes an AUI port for legacy network configurations or module maintenance. Equipped with front-panel LED indicators (OK, TXD, RXD), the 1756-ENET simplifies diagnostics during installation and operation.
Though now officially discontinued, the 1756-ENET remains widely used in existing automation systems and can be replaced with newer modules such as the 1756-ENBT or 1756-EN2T for enhanced speed and performance.
Key Features
- EtherNet/IP connectivity: Supports 10-BaseT communications for messaging and distributed I/O.
- Scanner & adapter operation: Allows flexible network roles depending on application needs.
- Front-panel diagnostics: TXD, RXD, and OK LEDs provide quick activity and health monitoring.
- CIP protocol support: Ensures compatibility with multiple industrial communication layers.
- Easy system integration: Installs in any slot of compatible ControlLogix chassis.
- Legacy AUI interface: Offers optional physical media connection for older Ethernet hardware.
- Compatible with Series A/B chassis: Including 1756-A4, A7, A10, and A13.
The 1756-ENET remains a dependable Ethernet interface for legacy ControlLogix installations requiring stable 10 Mbps communication.
