The Allen-Bradley 1756-IB16D is a ControlLogix DC digital I/O module. 16 diagnostic inputs, with 4 points in a group, are available for this particular input module. Compatible with the 1756 ControlLogix chassis, it requires an RTB, or removable terminal block, housing that is either the 1756-TBNH or 1756-TBSH only.

As with other diagnostic modules, the 1756-IB16D is intended to provide additional information to the controller, such as no load detection, a timestamp of the time a module fault occurs or clears up, and pulse tests. Note that this module does not indicate a blown or removed fuse for its wire off diagnostic function.

The 1756-IB16D has an operating voltage range of 10 to 30V DC and a voltage category of 12/24V DC sink, with a nominal input voltage of 24V DC. It has an input delay time of 340µs nominally or up to 1 ms hardware delay time plus the user selectable filter time (0, 1, or 2 ms) for the 'off' to 'on' state. The ‘on’ to ‘off’ input delay time is 740 µs nominally or up to 4 ms hardware delay time plus the user selectable filter time of either 0, 1, 9, or 18 ms. It has a total backplane power of 0.84W, a maximum power dissipation of 5.8W at 60 Degrees Celsius, and a maximum thermal dissipation of 19.78 BTU/hour. During an off-state, the 1756-IB16D has a maximum voltage of 5W and a maximum current of 1.5 mA. When in an on-state, the current ranges from 2 mA at 10V DC to 13 mA at 30V DC. Additionally, its maximum inrush current is 250 mA.
