The Allen-Bradley 1756-L82ES controller is GuardLogix series industrial controller. The 1756-L82ES GuardLogix controller is similar to the Allen-Bradley ControlLogix controllers, but the GuardLogix controller is better suited for applications that need safety connections or safety logic. This GuardLogix controller comes with 5 MB of user memory and with 2.5 MB of safety memory. It can support up to 175 Ethernet/IP nodes. It is rated to support 1 safety task and 31 standard tasks at a time, and it is rated to support up to 1000 programs per task. The 1756-L82ES GuardLogix controller is compatible with a variety of communication options, including the ControlNet, DeviceNet, Synchlink, Remote I/O, Data Highway Plus, EtherNet/IP (note that the 1756-EWEB module is not able to be used to make safety connections), NAT or Network Address Translation, and various third party processes and device networks.

It can also provide integrated safety over the EtherNet/IP network. Some of the most common applications for the 1756-L82ES controller are supporting link speeds of 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, and 1 Gbps, bridging messages over the EtherNet/IP network, communicating with distributed I/O modules, and directly connecting a controller over the EtherNet/IP network without using a bridge module. This controller can handle multiple programming languages such as the Ladder Diagram, the Function Block Diagram, and the Structured Text programming languages.
