Information About 1756-TBCH

The Allen-Bradley 1756-TBCH is a Removable Terminal Block (RTB) for 1756 I/O modules. It is an I/O module accessory and must be ordered separately. The 1756-TBCH provides flexibility in interconnecting 1756 I/O modules and industrial plant wiring. It plugs into the front of an I/O module.

The 1756-TBCH removable terminal block is a 36-pin cage-clamp with standard housing (wiring arm depth of 2.5 mm. sq.). When terminating signal to the RTB, the required Torque is 0.5 Nm screw torque. It is recommended to use a screwdriver with width of 3.2 mm (1/8 in.) Screwdriver width. It has dimensions of 5.51 x 4.41 x 5.71 in. and weighs 0.3 pounds. For wiring, use solid or stranded copper wire rated at 90 deg. Celsius (194 °. Fahrenheit) or greater with a gauge 1.2 mm (3/64 in.) maximum insulation must be used. In case of a single wire connection, the wire size must be 0.33 - 2.1 mm sq. (22 - 14 AWG), and for a double wire connection, the wire size must be 0.33 - 1.3 mm sq. (22 - 16 AWG). On any single terminal, do not wire more than two conductors.

Each ControlLogix I/O module can mount in any ControlLogix chassis and they all require a removable terminal block (RTB) to connect all the field-side wiring. Each I/O module has many applications ranging from high-speed digital processing to process control. In a ControlLogix architecture, input and output status are shared between multiple controllers in the same or different chassis using producer-consumer technology. The 1756-TBCH RTB is intended for use in a clean and dry industrial environment with a 0-60 deg. Celsius operating temperature and a 30g operating Shock.

The 1756-TBCH is a 36-Pin cage clamp Removable Terminal Block (RTB) that is used to provide modular and flexible wiring terminal for Input and Output devices. This RTB is a module component that installs in the front of a ControlLogix I/O module, hidden by the module door cover.

RTBs must be ordered separately. Depending on the module, an appropriate RTB is required however, the 1756-TBCH supports most of 1756 ControlLogix modules.

The idea of RTBs is to allow termination of wires without the need of the actual module. Termination may be made with the RTB alone. Once done, the RTB may be easily attached to the main module. Additionally, RTB saves time during troubleshooting and maintenance especially during module replacement. When replacing a module, the entire RTB is uninstalled from the main module. It is then re-installed to the replacement module without need of re-wiring.

Use wire with sizes 0.33 to 2.1 mm. sq. (22 to 14 AWG) solid or stranded copper wire for single wire connection or 0.33 to 1.3 mm sq. (22 to 16 AWG) solid or stranded copper wire for double wire connection. By using the proper wire size, the module door may be closed, and the terminal is still left with room for troubleshooting space. Do not terminate more than Two (2) conductor wires on the same terminal.

Some modules that may be installed with the RTB includes 1756-IA16I, 1756-IA16IK, 1756-IA32, 1756-IA32K, 1756-IB16D, 1756-IB16DK, 1756-IB16I, 1756-IB16IK, 1756-IB16IF, 1756-IB16IFK, 1756-IB16ISOE, 1756-IB16ISOEK, 1756-IB32, 1756-IB32K, 1756-IF8, 1756-IF8K, 1756-OB16IEF, 1756-OB16IEFK, 1756-OB16IS and many other modules.

Frequently Asked Questions about 1756-TBCH
Question: What is the 1756-TBCH?
Date Update:29/05/2025
Answer:

The 1756-TBCH is a Terminal Block Assembly designed for use with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix I/O modules. It provides a terminal block interface for wiring field devices (such as sensors, actuators, and other I/O devices) to the system. The terminal block is used to make connections between the ControlLogix system’s I/O modules and the external wiring, ensuring safe, organized, and reliable connections.

Question: How do I wire the 1756-TBCH terminal block assembly?
Date Update:29/05/2025
Answer:

Wiring the 1756-TBCH involves connecting the terminal block assembly to the appropriate I/O modules in the ControlLogix chassis. Here’s a general step-by-step guide for wiring:

  • Install the terminal block assembly: Mount the 1756-TBCH on the chassis, aligning it with the corresponding I/O module.
  • Connect the input or output wires: Field devices (such as sensors or actuators) should be connected to the appropriate terminal blocks on the assembly.
  • Wiring the power supply: For some I/O modules, a power supply must also be connected to the terminal block assembly.
  • Secure connections: Tighten the screws on the terminal block to ensure the wiring is securely connected.
  • Check for continuity and correctness: Verify the wiring according to the module’s documentation to ensure proper signal flow and power.

Always consult the wiring diagrams in the module’s manual for more specific wiring details, as wiring configurations can vary depending on the specific I/O module used.

Question: Where can I find the manual for the 1756-TBCH?
Date Update:29/05/2025
Answer:

The manual for the 1756-TBCH terminal block assembly can be found on the Rockwell Automation website in the product documentation section under the ControlLogix I/O modules. The manual includes detailed information on the installation, wiring, and troubleshooting of the terminal block assembly. Additionally, the manual provides wiring diagrams, specifications, and guidelines for proper system setup.

Question: What is the purpose of the jumper bar on the 1756-TBCH?
Date Update:29/05/2025
Answer:

The jumper bar on the 1756-TBCH terminal block assembly is used to provide electrical continuity across different terminals for signal or power distribution. It allows you to short-circuit certain terminals to facilitate a common connection for specific signals or power sources.

For example, in digital I/O modules, the jumper bar can be used to connect multiple input or output terminals to the same voltage reference (such as common ground or 24V DC), simplifying the wiring process for the system.

The jumper bar ensures that specific I/O points share common voltage or signal reference without needing individual connections for each terminal.

Question: How do I install the jumper bar on the 1756-TBCH?
Date Update:29/05/2025
Answer:

The jumper bar is installed directly on the terminal block assembly to connect certain terminals together. To install the jumper bar:

  1. Align the jumper bar with the corresponding terminals on the terminal block assembly.
  2. Press the jumper bar into place, ensuring that it securely makes contact with the designated terminals.
  3. If you need to remove the jumper bar, simply lift it off the terminals and reposition it if necessary.

It is important to only use the jumper bar as specified in the manual, as incorrect use may cause wiring issues or affect the system’s functionality.
