Information About 1756-TBE

The Allen-Bradley 1756-TBE is an Extended-Depth Housing used when additional wire routing space in an RTB is required for applications. It is ordered separately and is a component of the Bulletin 1756 Removable Terminal Block Series that uses heavy gauge wiring. The I/O terminal block and extended-depth housing combination allows up to 628 sq. mm wire capacity.

The 1756-TBE Extended-Depth Terminal Housing protects wiring connections by providing a cover to the wired RTB when it is seated on the module. This housing is recommended when working with wire measurements greater than 36-18AWG or 23-14AWG on the sequence of events module. It has a 157.43 mm (6.198 inches) depth from the module front to the back of the chassis. The 1756-TBE replaces the standard housing on the front of the wiring arm that is not deep enough to accommodate 2.5 mm² (14 AWG) wiring.

When installing the 1756-TBE onto the module, align the bottom grooves side-by-side with the edges of the Removable Terminal Block. Slide the RTB into place until it snaps or locks with the housing. It is recommended that the field-side power is removed. Not taking this precaution can cause loss of process control, unintended machine motion, or personal injury.

Frequently Asked Questions about 1756-TBE
Question: What is the primary purpose of the Allen-Bradley 1756-TBE terminal housing?
Date Update:05/06/2025
Answer:

The 1756-TBE is designed to provide extended depth housing for Removable Terminal Blocks (RTBs) in ControlLogix systems. It is used to protect wiring connections from dust, moisture, and mechanical damage. The extended depth allows for routing heavier gauge wires that standard housings cannot accommodate. It is especially useful in high-density or power-intensive wiring configurations.

Question: What ControlLogix modules is the 1756-TBE compatible with?
Date Update:05/06/2025
Answer:

The 1756-TBE is compatible with any ControlLogix module that uses a 36-pin Removable Terminal Block (RTB). It replaces the standard shallow housing for use when thicker wires are needed. This includes standard I/O, analog, digital, and Sequence of Events (SOE) modules. It ensures better cable management for larger or high-current wiring.

Question: Does the 1756-TBE increase electrical performance?
Date Update:05/06/2025
Answer:

No, the 1756-TBE itself does not influence electrical performance. Its role is mechanical and protective — it provides space and shielding for wires connected to the RTB. However, by supporting proper wire bending radius and preventing pinching, it indirectly contributes to signal integrity and longevity of the wiring system.

Question: How is the 1756-TBE installed on the RTB?
Date Update:05/06/2025
Answer:

To install the 1756-TBE, the installer must align the grooves on the housing with the sides of the RTB. The RTB is then slid into place until it locks securely. It is recommended to de-energize the field-side power before installation to avoid accidental arcing or process disruptions. The design ensures quick and tool-free attachment.

Question: Is the 1756-TBE terminal housing still in production?
Date Update:05/06/2025
Answer:

Yes, as of now, the 1756-TBE is still in production and available from Rockwell Automation. It continues to be a recommended accessory for applications using heavy-gauge wiring with ControlLogix RTBs. However, users should always verify lifecycle status with the manufacturer, as accessory parts can be subject to phase-out.
