Information About 1757-SRM

The 1757-SRM is an Allen-Bradley ProcessLogix and ControlLogix module that is used for implementing controller redundancy to increase a process system availability. This is done by employing a secondary controller synchronized with a primary controller installed on Two (2) different ControlLogix chassis.

When implementing a redundant controller system, Two (2) identical ControlLogix chassis must be installed. The chassis size, the modules installed and positioning, System power supply and module revisions should match each other. This qualifies the redundant controller setup. One of the chassis will be termed as primary while the other is secondary chassis.

The 1757-SRM features a Fiber Optic port where a 62.5/125-micron multi-mode fiber-optic cable with SC connector is connected. The other end of the cable connects to the partner 1757-SRM installed on the other ControlLogix chassis. This cable serves as the synchronization link of the modules and the entire secondary rack.

The 1757-SRM is a Two (2) slot module. It has module status display that indicates text codes that represent the module operational status. The PRI LED inform the user which of the chassis within the pair operates as the primary chassis. The COM LED represents the communication and synchronization status. The Health status LED indicates if the module is performing self-test, experienced critical failure or operating normally.

The 1757-SRM is compatible with ControlLogix chassis 1756-A4, 1756-A7, 1756-A10, 1756-A13, or 1756-A17 and System Power Supplies 1756-PA72, 1756-PA75, 1756-PB72, or 1756-PB75. For 1756-A4, recommended installation slot is 1 or 2; 1756-A7 is slot 4 or 5; 1756-A10 is slot 5 or 6; 1756-A13 is slot 4 or 5 and 1756-A17 is slot 5 or 6.

The Allen-Bradley 1757-SRM ProcessLogix and ControlLogix System Redundancy Module is a solid-state device that is employed in critical industrial applications that should not be stopped under any circumstances in order to provide a redundancy system by using an identical pair of PLCs to guarantee operation at all times. The 1757-SRM redundancy module is designed for installation in any free slot of a ControlLogix chassis but predefining the order of the cards to install in each ControlLogix slot is recommended. Both PLC systems, called the primary and secondary PLC systems, should be identical for the redundancy system to work appropriately.

The Allen-Bradley 1757-SRM ProcessLogix and ControlLogix System Redundancy Modules installed in primary and secondary PLC chassis will need to be interconnected by using a 1757-SRCxx Fiber-optic Cable. The length of the cable can be 1 meter (3 feet), 3 meters (9 feet), 10 meters (30 feet), 50 meters (150 feet), or 100 meters (300 feet). Once both chassis are assembled and connected, it can be designated which one will be the primary chassis and which will be the secondary chassis. If they are the same, then redundant control will be guaranteed and in case of a failure in the first PLC, the second one will take over the application process and signal an alarm to inform the final users of the event without stopping the critical process in the meantime.
