The 1769-ASCII provides connection to ASCII compatible devices. This module has Two (2) ports, individually configured for exchanging data via ASCII protocol. This module is compatible for use with 1769 CompactLogix or MicroLogix 1500 Controller.

The Allen-Bradley 1769-ASCII is a 1769 CompactLogix and MicroLogix 1500 compatible module. This specialty provides connection to devices that supports American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) protocol. Typical devices that utilize this protocol are Barcode Readers which are commonly installed in factory automation applications.

The 1769-ASCII has Two (2) individually isolated ASCII ports. Each port may function simultaneous at different configuration and communicate to different set of devices. The ASCII ports are capable of being configured as alternating mode or dual simultaneous mode and can be used as RS233 / RS422 (Port1) and RS485 (Port 2) independently.

The 1769-ASCII has a power supply distance rating of 4 modules. This means that the module must be installed not more that Four (4) modules away from the 1769 CompactLogix Power Supply. It is backplane powered and may connect to any adjacent module including the 1769 CompactLogix Controller. In a MicroLogix system, the module is installed beside the base unit or to an adjacent 1769 Compact module. In both instances, the module does not require an external power supply.

The Allen-Bradley 1769-ASCII module provides Two (2) independent channels for ASCII devices. The 1769-ASCII has Two (2) DB-9 male serial port that provides communication interface to other ASCII devices. These serial ports are isolated from the backplane and may be operated individually.

The module’s serial input voltage signal is 3-25V DC on signal ground 0 when active and 3-25 V DC on signal ground 1 when inactive. It has a 425mA bus current at 5V DC and a maximum power dissipation of 2.13 W. The 1769-ASCII has a maximum Thermal Dissipation of 7.3 BTU/hr. It has isolation voltage of 30V and tested to withstand 710V DC for 60 s. Its serial port statuses are TX, FIFO, /RX, FIFO overflow, RX parity error, handshake error, and new data flag. The 1769-ASCII has an RTS/CTS hardware handshake enabled.

The 1769-ASCII module’s operating temperature is 0-60 deg. Celsius. When storing this product as a spare, the storage temperature shall be -40-85 deg. Celsius. The device must be operated in an environment with 5-95% relative humidity, operating vibration of 5g at 10-500 Hz, operating shock of 30g, and non-operating shock of 50g. The 1769-ASCII has dimensions of 87 x 34 x 118 mm.
