Description 

The Allen-Bradley 1771-OW is a selectable contact output module from the 1771 product bulletin. It has Eight (8) relay contact output channels in Four (4) groups of Two (2) channels each. Output channels are selectable for Normally Open (N.O.) or Normally Closed (N.C.) orientation with N.O. as the default configuration. Output relays can be operated at 24 – 138VAC RMS and 24 – 125VDC. This module uses the 1717-WD Field Wiring Arm and installed to any 1771 I/O chassis.

Information About 1771-OW

The Allen-Bradley 1771-OW is a selectable relay output module. This module features Eight (8) relay output channels in Four (4) groups of Two (2) channels each with each group installed with individual common. Each output channel can be assigned as a Normally Open (N.O.) contact or Normally Closed (N.C.) contact with N.O. as the default configuration. This module is ideally used with resistive loads as it does not come with surge limiting circuitry.

Each output of the 1771-OW comes with internal electrical isolation from module logic to circuitry. All of the module’s relay channels may be activated simultaneously. Each output channel may conduct a maximum continuous flow of current at 1.0 Ampere. If AC devices are connected to any of the output channels, the AC load must have a power factor of 1.0. Output channels has an operate / release time of 5 ms, bounce time of 1 ms and switching frequency of 10 Hz.

When wiring devices to the module’s 1771-WD Field Wiring Arm, use maximum of 14 Gauge stranded wire with maximum insulation thickness of 3/64. Additionally, interconnect cables shall not exceed 1000 ft or 304.8 meters.

The 1771-OW is powered through the backplane supply. It requires a maximum backplane current of 700 mA. It has minimum Power Dissipation of 3.3 Watts and maximum Power Dissipation of 3.7 Watts while the module’s Thermal dissipation is 11.3 BTU/hr - 12/6 BTU/hr. The module’s operating temperature is 0-60 Deg. Celsius while storage temperature is -40 to 85 Deg. Celsius. Required relative humidity is 5-95%, non-condensing.

Each output is electrically isolated from the logic circuitry. This design allows the module to switch all 8 outputs using separate loads continuously. The 1771-OW Selectable Contact Output has an operating voltage of 24-138V AC (resistive loads); 24-125V DC. It has a maximum of 0.25A at 120V AC/DC or 1A at 30V AC/DC (30 W) continuous current per output. Its logic circuitry is powered via the power supply connected to the backplane of the I/O. The 1771-OW draws a maximum current of 700mA to energize all the coils of the module relays. To set the I/O slots to accept only the 1771-OW, use the plastic keying bands and place between pins 6 and 8, and between pins 16 and 18. This output module can be inserted into any slot except the leftmost connector which only accommodates processor or adapter modules. The relay output jumpers are factory pre-set at Normally Open (N.O.) operation. Each output, however, can be reset interchangeably to either be Normally Closed (N.C.) or Normally Open (N.O.).
