Information About 1771-RTP4

The 1771-RTP4 PLC 5 Remote Termination Panel by Allen-Bradley is an electrical device used with the N-series High-Resolution Analog I/O modules to provide a Remote Termination System and the panel itself is designed for mounting on the Standard DIN 1 and DIN 3 mounting rails. The 1771-RTP4 has a field wiring connector and it establishes a connection to the N-Series I/O modules via the two 1.8m (6ft)-long 1771-NC6 Pre-fabricated cables and it has a maximum of 8 I/O connections. It is an 8-channel termination panel with voltage inputs, RTD, and voltage outputs, and it can be used for most applications except thermocouples. Mounting of the 1771-RTP4 is done via the Asymmetrical and Symmetrical 1 or 3 DIN rails, and it is designed to reduce additional cost by eliminating wiring between a Terminal Strip and a Wiring Arm and it makes the removal or replacement of an I/O possible without disturbing the current loop. The entire 1771-RTP4 Termination Panel weighs approximately 0.2Kg (0.5lb), and has dimensions of 75mm x 138mm x 58mm (3.0in x 5.3in x 3.0in).

Frequently Asked Questions about 1771-RTP4
Question: What is the 1771-RTP4 used for?
Date Update:20/06/2025
Answer:

The 1771-RTP4 is a remote termination panel used with Allen-Bradley PLC-5 systems. It is specifically designed for general-purpose analog I/O applications, excluding thermocouple inputs. This panel connects field devices like RTDs, voltage, and current input modules to the control system through prefabricated cables. It simplifies field wiring and helps streamline installation. The panel supports up to 8 I/O modules at once. It’s especially helpful when clean separation between field and control cabinet wiring is needed.

Question: Can the 1771-RTP4 be used with voltage signals?
Date Update:20/06/2025
Answer:

Yes, the 1771-RTP4 supports voltage input devices, but only when a resistor is used in conjunction. This configuration allows for safe signal scaling and protection of the I/O circuitry. The resistor should be selected based on input range requirements and system specifications. Voltage signals without resistors may result in inaccurate readings or potential module damage. Always refer to Allen-Bradley's installation guidelines when wiring voltage inputs. This makes the panel flexible for mixed-signal applications.

Question: How many modules does it support?
Date Update:20/06/2025
Answer:

The 1771-RTP4 supports up to 8 I/O modules simultaneously. These modules can be a combination of current or voltage input types depending on the application. This capacity provides flexibility for small to medium-scale analog systems. It also helps reduce wiring complexity by centralizing field connections. Using prefabricated cables ensures correct pinouts and minimizes errors. The limit of 8 modules ensures optimal performance and power handling.

Question: Does it require any special cabling?
Date Update:20/06/2025
Answer:

Yes, it uses the 1771-PSCC cable for remote connection, typically 5.5 feet (1.8 m) in length. This prefabricated cable ensures correct pin mapping and secure signal transmission. Using the correct cable avoids wiring mistakes and signal degradation. It is factory-tested for reliability and fits directly into the connector ports. The cable facilitates fast commissioning. Always check cable length and routing to ensure signal integrity.

Question: Is the 1771-RTP4 still being manufactured?
Date Update:20/06/2025
Answer:

No, the 1771-RTP4 remote termination panel has officially been discontinued by Rockwell Automation as of March 31, 2021. This means it is no longer in production and not available for new purchases through official sales channels. Customers are strongly encouraged to remove references to this product in new designs or active system configurations. Although legacy systems may still support this panel, maintenance planning is essential to avoid downtime. Rockwell categorizes it under "Engineering Replacement," suggesting that users migrate to a newer platform such as ControlLogix with compatible I/O wiring solutions. For long-term support, stocking spare parts or considering retrofit kits is highly recommended.
