Information About 1786-RPFM
The 1786-RPFM is an Allen-Bradley ControlNet accessory. This module is a Panel Mount / DIN rail mountable device that functions as ControlNet Modular Repeater Medium Distance Fiber Module.
This module is used for conversion of Cox cable to fiber optic medium with a maximum distance of 3000 meters or 9843 feet. The fiber link provides isolation between connected nodes and provides an increased immunity to noise and electrical disturbances. The fiber link of this module requires use of 62.5/125 micron cable, OM1 multimode Fiber optic cable.
The 1786-RPFM is used with the 1786-RPA ControlNet Repeater Adapter module. Up to Four (4) 1786-RPFM may be used with One 1786-RPA. Additionally, mixing repeater types is allowed when assembling a ControlNet network. The maximum allowable total power consumption without damaging the module repeater adapter and nearby modules is 1.6 A @ 5V DC.
The 1786-RPFM is ideally used to extend the total length of One (1) ControlNet segment when used with Point-to-Point or Trunk line topology. It may also be used when planning to build Star and Ring topologies, to establish networks with multiple directions from a single point. Additionally, these fiber converter and repeater modules may be used if the application crosses an industrial location with known high levels of electrical noises and hazardous areas. The maximum attenuation for a fiber cable must not be higher than 13.3 dB. Typically, cable attenuation for a wavelength of 1300 nm is less than 1.5 dB/km.
RSnetWorx may be used to configure ControlNet properties as well as to qualify if the system being assembled conforms to the ControlNet requirement.
This device has a current draw of 400 mA, an operating wavelength of 1300 nm, and a level of attenuation of 13.3 dB. Designed to solve medium distance applications, this unit requires less than 3000 meters per segment between the two ControlNet Fiber repeaters, however the maximum length of the section depends upon the quality of fiber, a number of connectors, and a number of splices. When it comes to the installation of this repeater series, a trained specialist is recommended for this purpose as its installation requires a proper verification test. Moreover, this Allen Bradley 1786-RPFM unit should be mounted within a suitable enclosure to maximize the module’s operation. In addition, make sure that the interior of this enclosure is accessible by a tool, such as a screwdriver, so that no harm is done by the live parts.
This 1786-RPFM ControlNet unit is mainly used to create a star topology, ring topology, extend the length of the network, and for conversion of copper coaxial cable to fiber media. The Allen Bradley 1786-RPFM unit provides exceptional isolation between nodes and is also less susceptible to the noisy environment than other copper media. It is also used to power various repeater modules. They both come with a status indicator that is interpreted by the user to communicate the faulty conditions and to check if there are errors in the data or not.
