The 2198-H008-ERS supports a hardwired version of Safe Torque Off (STO) functionality. To implement this features with this drive, it requires integration to a ControlLogix® 5570, ControlLogix 5580, CompactLogix™ 5370, or CompactLogix 5380. The dedicated STO connector located on the drive’s front panel is used. The STO feature enables this drive to be used in safety-related application that require up to ISO 13849-1, Performance Level d (PL d) and Category 3, SIL CL 2 per IEC 61508, IEC 61800-5-2, and IEC 62061 Safety levels.

The module is sized for 0.5kW to 1.6kW motors, depending on output voltage. This servo drive module can operate as a standalone device or can be grouped with other servo modules into a multi-axis configuration (shared DC, shared AC, shared AC/DC hybrid, and shared DC/AC). This system is designed to operate optimally with the Allen Bradley family of controllers such as CompactLogix 5370 and ControlLogix controllers. By using such a powerful programming and configuration tool, projects containing motor motion control will get much easier to put into operation and will provide an almost maintenance free solution. The 2198-H008-ERS modules have a protection system that operates in accordance with UL 508 C and is designed as solid-state motor overload protection. Motor overload protection carries out thermal memory algorithms and predicts actual motor temperature based on operating conditions, as long as control power is constantly in use. If control power is removed, thermal memory is not retained. This module also gives an option of input for an external temperature sensor device, implanted in the motor, to maintain the UL requirement for motor overload protection. The 2198-H008-ERS works with an AC input/output voltage of 240 Volts AC for single-phase and three-phase systems and 480 Volts AC for three-phase systems. The power supply for control inputs is 24 Volts DC and nominal bus output supply is 276 Volts DC to 747 Volts DC. The housing of the servo module fits into a 50 x 170 x 200 millimeter (1.97 x 6.69 x 7.87 inch) space. Restrictions concerning cable lengths from the module to the motors are 50 meters (164 feet) for standard non-flex cables and 30 meters (98.4 feet) for continuous flex cables. The Kinetix 5500 drive series, which includes the servo drive module 2198-H008-ERS, have accessories like Bulletin 2198 capacitor modules, AC line filters, shared-bus connection systems, and Bulletin 2097 external shunt resistors.
