Information About 25-COMM-D

The 25-COMM-D adapter is a DeviceNet adapter that has been designed exclusively to be used with the PowerFlex 525 series of drives by Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation. This adapter is meant to be installed inside the host drive and it provides the drive with DeviceNet communications, enabling the drive to share data with different devices. This adapter also works as a multi-drive adapter that can provide different means for connecting the drive to DSI hosts. Some of the components of this DeviceNet adapter are node address and rate switches, a communication card drive header which is a 40-pin female header, 3 LED status indicators, terminals, and DeviceNet connectors which are 5-pin connectors. The Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation 25-COMM-D DeviceNet adapter can be mounted on a PowerFlex 525 control module’s back cover. This way, the adapter can receive the power it needs to operate from the drive and the DeviceNet network.

The Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation 25-COMM-D DeviceNet adapter employs multiple data transmission methods that include polled, cyclic, and change of state (COS) data transmission methods. All of these methods can be used to transmit data between the network and the adapter. This adapter comes shipped with one 5-pin inline DeviceNet plug, 2 interface connectors, and an installation leaflet.

Frequently Asked Questions about 25-COMM-D
Question: What is the 25-COMM-D module used for?
Date Update:23/06/2025
Answer:

The 25-COMM-D is typically a communication adapter module designed for use with PowerFlex drives. It enables these drives to connect and communicate over DeviceNet networks, allowing for remote control, diagnostics, and configuration.

Question: What devices is the 25-COMM-D compatible with?
Date Update:23/06/2025
Answer:

It is generally compatible with PowerFlex 4, 40, 400, 70, 700, and 750-series drives. Always consult the latest user manual to confirm model-specific compatibility.

Question: How do I configure the 25-COMM-D module?
Date Update:23/06/2025
Answer:
  1. Install the adapter into the designated slot on the drive.
  2. Use software such as RSNetWorx for DeviceNet or Studio 5000 to set the MAC ID and baud rate.
  3. Use DIP switches or software to assign the MAC ID.
  4. Map the parameters using EDS files for proper integration.
Question: What should I do if the module is not communicating with the network?
Date Update:23/06/2025
Answer:
  • Check LED indicators: They provide diagnostic info (e.g., flashing green = waiting for connection).
  • Verify MAC ID and baud rate: Ensure these are correctly set and not conflicting.
  • Inspect cabling and terminations: Proper DeviceNet termination resistors must be installed.
  • Use RSNetWorx diagnostics to scan the network and confirm the module's presence.
Question: What are the power requirements of the 25-COMM-D?
Date Update:23/06/2025
Answer:

The adapter usually receives power from the drive itself and does not require separate external power. However, some specific applications may require external DeviceNet power.
