Information About 2711-T10C20

The 2711-T10C20 is a visualization component from Allen-Bradley. It is a graphic operator terminal, more popularly known as a Human Machine Interface (HMI) that allows machine users and process operators to control a specific area or the entire process in one, convenient and integrated monitoring and control workstation.

The 2711-T10C20 is part of the PanelView Plus 1000 Standard operator terminals that features a colored display screen measuring 10.1 inches, embedded with analog-resistive touchscreen that allows direct operation by touching a specific runtime object displayed in the HMI’s screen. Additionally, this operator terminal communicates with Allen-Bradley controllers or 3rd party devices using the built-in Ethernet communication port which support 10/100 Mbps transmission speed with auto-negotiation capability. The secondary port which is the RS232 9-pin Sub D interface is specifically designed to communicate with alarm printers for documentation of alarms and events.

With Ethernet I/P, communication with partner devices may be implemented using Cat5 cable and may cover 100m of distance at a maximum without converters and extenders. If longer distance is required, installation of an Ethernet switch may be utilized or conversion to Fiber Optic may be implemented.

The 2711-T10C20 is capable of exchanging data between one or more Allen Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) such as PLC5, MicroLogix, SLC, CompactLogix even ControlLogix. Additionally, it is capable of communicating with 3rd party devices provided that both systems have compatible communication interfaces.

Each 2711-T10C20 module features a durable NEMA Type 12/13 or 4X enclosure for indoor use only. The HMI runs on an 85 to 264 Volts AC input power. Data, files, applications, and more can be stored in the 2711-T10C20’s 1008 Kbytes of memory. There are Ethernet and Printer (RS-232) Communication Ports for adaptable communication and the Allen-Bradley 2711-T10C20 module can provide HMI support for any Allen-Bradley Programmable Controller. It can download data remotely with a network, a gateway, or a passthrough connection.

The 2711-T10C20’s dimensions are approximately 11 x 15 x 4 inches (282 x 370 x 112 millimeters). It can accommodate different accessories for different applications, and these accessories include connections cables, ATA PC memory cards, and an antiglare overlay for the LCD screen. Other features of the 2711-T10C20 include screen security, alarms, a real-time clock, universal language support, ASCII inputs and displays, and floating-point file support. The 2711-T10C20 HMI terminal can create screens for a full complement range of operator devices. This HMI can operate in a Class III Division 1 industrial environment, and it is CE and UL certified.

Frequently Asked Questions about 2711-T10C20
Question: What is this device used for?
Date Update:13/06/2025
Answer:

The Allen-Bradley 2711-T10C20 is a Human-Machine Interface (HMI) used for visualizing and controlling industrial processes. It enables operators to monitor real-time data, interact with machine controls, and respond to alarms through a 10.1-inch color touchscreen. This HMI supports direct communication with Allen-Bradley controllers like PLC-5, SLC 500, CompactLogix, and ControlLogix. It also offers printer communication for alarm logs via RS-232. The 2711-T10C20 helps centralize control tasks, improving efficiency and operator response. It is commonly used in manufacturing, utilities, and automated systems.

Question: What is the screen size and type?
Date Update:13/06/2025
Answer:

The terminal features a 10.1-inch active matrix TFT color display. It uses a Cold Cathode Fluorescent (CCFL) backlight with a rated life of approximately 100,000 hours. The display resolution is 640 x 480 pixels, suitable for viewing alarms, trends, and operator screens clearly. The analog-resistive touchscreen supports 384 touch cells for accurate finger-based input. It is designed to provide responsive control even with gloved hands. The vibrant color graphics help improve process visibility and navigation.

Question: What is the available memory?
Date Update:13/06/2025
Answer:

The 2711-T10C20 comes with 1008 KB of application memory for screen development and data storage. This memory is used to store display objects, runtime logic, alarm setups, and interface layouts. The memory capacity is sufficient for mid-level HMI applications with multiple screens. Complex graphics or high-volume data logging may require memory optimization. The terminal supports file transfers via serial or Ethernet connections. It does not have expandable memory slots like newer HMI models.

Question: What is the heat dissipation rate?
Date Update:13/06/2025
Answer:

The 2711-T10C20 dissipates approximately 39 Watts of power, equivalent to 132 BTU per hour. This value should be considered when designing panel ventilation or thermal management systems. Excessive heat buildup can reduce component life and HMI performance. Proper spacing, ventilation, or enclosure fans may be required in tightly packed control cabinets. Heat dissipation values help ensure optimal operating temperatures. Maintaining ambient temperature below 55 °C is critical for long-term reliability.

Question: Is it still in production?
Date Update:13/06/2025
Answer:

No, the 2711-T10C20 has been officially discontinued by Rockwell Automation. As part of the PanelView Standard series, it has been replaced by the more advanced PanelView Plus and PanelView 5000 product lines. Users are encouraged to migrate to newer HMI models for continued support, better resolution, improved connectivity, and modern software compatibility. Despite being discontinued, refurbished units or spare parts may still be found through third-party suppliers. Rockwell provides migration guides to assist in upgrading to current platforms. Future projects should avoid using this legacy model.
