Information About 86466-58S
The 86466-58S is a Rectifier Stack created by Reliance Electric. This Stack may have also been produced by ASEA BROWN BOVERI, Baldor Reliance, and Allen Bradley depending on when it was mass-produced. This Rectifier Stack has been discontinued by the manufacturers and is now considered to be obsolete.
The 86466-58S is used in the MaxPak Plus Series of controllers. A rectifier is used as a power unit to convert AC power to DC power. This is useful because DC power is much easier to control because it can only flow in one direction. A rectifier is also a stationary component that is used for output only. Typically, there are three rectifier stacks in a Full Wave Bridge Configuration. Each rectifier has two dedicated thyristors attached to it (an upper and a lower). Mounting an upper and lower thyristor together forms the rectifier. Each of the rectifier modules in the Full Wave Bridge is exchangeable.
A typical rectifier stack uses disc-type thyristors. A thyristor is either on or off on the stack and can be turned on by pulsing when the AC power coming in has a positive charge going to its cathode. When you reverse the polarity of the power coming in, it turns the thyristor off.
