The AK-R2-120P1K2 dynamic brake kit can also be used for 600 Volts AC input rated drives. For such drives, the kit can be used with drives rated for 2.2 kilowatts, 4 kilowatts, 5.5 kilowatts and 7.5 kilowatts. The continuous power rating for such applications is 0.26 kilowatts and the maximum energy rating is 52 kilojoules.
During operation, the temperature of the Allen-Bradley PowerFlex 70 AK-R2-120P1K2 dynamic brake kit may go above 200 degrees Celsius. AC drives from Allen-Bradley do not offer the required protection for external brake resistors such as the AK-R2-120P1K2 dynamic brake kit. This is especially true if a brake IGBT fails. Therefore, there is a serious risk of fire for external brake resistors that are operated without the required level of protection. Allen-Bradley recommends protecting the external resistors against excessive temperatures. The system power must be disconnected prior to the installation of the AK-R2-120P1K2 dynamic brake kit. It should also be ensured that the DC voltages on the drives have discharged to 0 Volts. A minimum separation of 2 inches of 50.8 millimeters must be provided between the AC drive and the external brake resistor kit for air-cooling.
